When I was young and bright-eyed about my future as a tailor, I imaged days on end spent in creative ecstasy turning out fashion with every flap of the wrist.
Obviously that’s not how things turned out, and a great deal of our time is spent in tasks somewhat simpler than re-imagining the very concept of clothing.
Like hemming pants, man we hem a lot of pants 😉
As the business has become more successful in providing killer tailoring services, I’ve found it difficult to find the time to engage with the parts of tailoring I really love.
This year I’ve tried really hard to take Wednesday mornings for nothing but my personal projects, since free time to work on these is simply not going to materialize so long as I run a good business.
The plan that emerged slowly throughout the year (and is still in formulation mode I guess tbh) is to work on one garment at a time, systematizing its pattern across the standard sizes and really getting to the core basics of its block.
It’s been fun manipulating the blocks and observing the results, and of course I never tire of photographing the beautiful Antonio. We’ll be ready to produce these pants for our clients beginning next year, but I thought I’d share some images of our adventures so far just for fun.
